Mariana B. Astete (b. Chile) is a printmaker and interdisciplinary artist currently pursuing her MFA in Printmaking at the University of South Dakota, and received her BFA at the University of Texas Permian Basin.
Astete’s practice is rooted in bridging tradition with technology, using art as a platform to spark dialogue around identity, resilience, and global connection. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in the permanent collection of the South Dakota Art Museum.She has been featured in Season 3 of The Story of Art in America on Amazon Prime, Beacon West Magazine, and the South Dakota Arts Journal. In 2024, she received six Gold Medals at the International Indigo Design Awards for her branding campaign FOUR+. An active member of the Mid America Print Council (MAPC), Southern Graphics Council International (SGCI), and the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), Mariana contributes to the printmaking community through portfolio exchanges and by curating exhibitions such as Culture Currency, which featured artists including Andrew Polk. She continues to give back through teaching, mentorship, and donating artwork to organizations supporting accessibility and students with disabilities, reflecting her belief in art’s power to connect within communities.
